About

I made this page to collaborate all the resources I use to study the Bible. I came up with my Bible rating based on the average of three categories: Understandability, Accuracy to Greek (I don't know much Hebrew) and My Personal Preference to Read.

Here is some more info on the manuscripts used to translate these bibles

Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (BHS) - Is a critical apparatus or critical text, that compares all the best Hebrew and Aramaic manuscripts of the Old Testament, and comes up with a final compiled Old Testament. The resulting Hebrew and Aramaic Old testament is known as the Masoretic Text. This resulting Masoretic text is almost identical to the Leningrad Codex (AD 1008)

Masoretic Text - Is the Hebrew and Aramaic text of the Old Testament. The Oldest complete copy of the Masoretic text is the Leningrad Codex (AD 1008).

United Bible Societies (UBS or UBS5) - Is the Greek text which comes from the best or most accurate of all the Greek manuscripts currently known. Scholars refer to the UBS as a critical apparatus or a critical text, because it compares all the manuscripts to each other, in order to find out which manuscripts are more reliable or closer to the original. The UBS comes to the same conclusion and includes almost the exact same manuscripts as the NA28. The final Greek text of the UBS includes only the best manuscripts. This final compiled Greek New Testament is referred to as Novum Testamentum Graece. The number after the UBS is the edition, so UBS5 is the fifth edition of the UBS.

Nestle-Aland (NA or NA28) - Is the same thing as the UBS, only it includes a few more manuscripts, because the UBS is more focused on only what is necessary to help translators figure out the best Greek meaning, but the NA28 tries to be a more all inclusive collection of Greek manuscripts. The final compiled Greek New Testament of the NA28 is the same as the UBS5 and is referred to as Novum Testamentum Graece. The number after the NA is the edition, so NA28 is the twenty-eighth edition of the NA.

Novum Testamentum Graece - Is the final compiled Greek New Testament from the NA28 and the UBS5. This is not a comparison of Greek manuscripts, but only the final concluding New Testament.

Westcott and Hort - Is a critical apparatus or critical text, that compares all the best Greek manuscripts of the New Testament, and comes up with a final compiled New Testament. It was published in 1881, so it doesn’t include some of the manuscripts included in the UBS5 or NA28.

(SBL or SBLGNT) Society of Biblical Literature Greek New Testament - This is similar to the NA28 and UBS. It claims to differ in 540 variation units. It claims to have some updated information from recent discoveries. But it is basically the same collection of Greek manuscripts, with some additions.

Textus Receptus or "received text" - Is a Greek New Testament based on Erasmus's Novum

Testamentum omne, which was translated from Greek Byzantine type manuscripts (AKA 'Majority text') & the Latin Vulgate.

Majority Text – This is a collection of Greek manuscripts know as Byzantine. They are known as the Majority text because the majority of known Greek manuscripts are Byzantine. The earliest Byzantine type manuscripts are from around 200-300 AD.

Latin Vulgate - A late 4th century Latin translation of the complete Bible.

Septuagint - A translation of the Hebrew Old Testament into Greek. Created by 72 scholars around 285-247 BC. Jesus often quoted from this, judging by the way the Greek New Testament phrases things.
